Public-private partnerships help optimise social grant payments
The efficiency of social grant payments in South Africa can be optimised through public-private partnerships to protect the most vulnerable members of society.
Lincoln Mali from EasyPay Everywhere says: “The current challenges facing the grant payments and card renewals call for a creative partnership between the public and private sector. There is a huge opportunity to change the grant payment space for the better to enable customers choice and dignity.
This change would allow banks, fintechs, retailers and telcos to compete for grant beneficiaries as customers. Such competition would spark innovation on products, channels and services which would present grant beneficiaries with the potential to change and improve their lives.
There is such power in customers knowing that they have choice in service providers and that they can rate or rank service providers across costs, products and services.
This difficult and yet urgently required transition will drive collaboration and partnerships between service providers, the public sector, traditional leaders and communities to communicate with grant beneficiaries to ensure that the transition is handled with due regard to the unique needs of grant beneficiaries.
In the escalating uncertainty it is imperative that SASSA social grant beneficiaries know that they have credible, regulated alternative platforms through which they can withdraw their social grants.
As EasyPay Everywhere we have mobilised our staff and teams to be responsive to this challenge and we stand ready to assist in any way that we can. We have mobile teams that use the latest technology to open these accounts and issue the card in less than 5 minutes.”
